About the Event

FFMV will be conducting two bus tours to Fairlight (c1860s) and The Cottage (c1811) on 29 May. There are two options, a morning session from 9:30 to Noon, then a 1:00pm to 3:30pm.

Fairlight is a substantial Victorian house with early barn and garden, standing on land granted by

Governor Macquarie to the Norton family in 1821. The present house and barn were built by Jarrett,

and there are a number of trees that may have been part of his garden

The Cottage was built by William Cox for his sons George, Henry and Edward. It was the home of

Edward Cox before he built Fernhill in the early 1840s. With the building of St Thomas’ Church at his

gates, Edward Cox began developing Fernhill as a gentleman’s estate, planning a mansion

and creating a landscape park. The landscape between The Cottage, the Church and Fernhill

has remained virtually unaltered since the 1850s.

Please meet at the parking lot for the Community Hall in Mulgoa Park (corner of Mulgoa and Littlefields Rds) 15 minutes prior to the start time and wear comfortable shoes.  Participants should be physically able to board the bus and walk on rural, but relatively level, grounds.

Note that you may use your NSW Discover Voucher for this event.

Visits to St Thomas Church may be made separately but are not part of this tour.  The gates may be open from 10am to 3pm.

Fernhill Walking Trail must be booked separately:  Fernhill Walking Trail Tickets, Multiple Dates | Eventbrite.

Light refreshments will be served at The Cottage.
