Walk the grounds of historic Fairlight, a substantial Victorian house and impressive barn surrounded by old fig trees, and The Cottage, home to Edward Cox before he built Fernhill, creating a landscape between The Cottage, Fernhill and St. Thomas Church virtually unaltered since the 1850s.

About the Event

FFMV will be conducting two bus tours to Fairlight (c1860s) and The Cottage (c1811) on 29 May. There are two options, a morning session from 9:30 to Noon, then a 1:00pm to 3:30pm. 

Fairlight is a substantial Victorian house with early barn and garden, standing on land granted by

Governor Macquarie to the Norton family in 1821. The present house and barn were built by Jarrett,

and there are a number of trees that may have been part of his garden

The Cottage was built by William Cox for his sons George, Henry and Edward. It was the home of

Edward Cox before he built Fernhill in the early 1840s. With the building of St Thomas’ Church at his
